The Art of the Proposal
How to choose a ring that tells your story — a gemologist's guide to the perfect surprise.
There is no single "right" ring — only the right ring for her. The secret is not the size of the stone, but how closely it reflects the person who will wear it every day for the rest of her life.
Begin with the four C's
Cut, colour, clarity and carat are the language of every diamond. Of the four, cut matters most — it governs how a stone returns light as fire and brilliance. A beautifully cut one-carat diamond will almost always out-sparkle a larger, lazily cut stone. When in doubt, prioritise cut, then balance the remaining three to your budget.
Know her style
Does she wear yellow gold or cool platinum? Vintage detail or clean modern lines? A quiet glance at the jewelry she already loves tells you almost everything. If she favours warmth and romance, rose gold and a cushion cut feel right; if she loves the contemporary, a princess or emerald cut in platinum will sing.
"A diamond is not bought — it is chosen, the way one chooses a moment to remember forever."
Choose the setting
The setting frames the stone and protects it for a lifetime. A classic four-prong solitaire lets the diamond take centre stage; a halo adds sparkle and presence; a pavé band brings light all the way around. Each tells a slightly different story.
